Just 90 km from Lisbon, with a direct access by the A8 and IP6 motorways, is the council of Peniche with its 28 000 inhabitants and 77 km2.
The city of Peniche once an island now offers a variety of exceptional beaches due to its geographical location on the coast : from the calm waters on the south side of the Baleal beach to the crashing waves of the world famous surfing Supertubos beach, to the medicinal waters of the thalassotherapy beach of Consolação. Peniche, known for its recreational activities and nautical sports, has nonetheless maintained its historical charm with its fortress and extensive preserved areas with breathtaking views overlooking the ocean. Just a ferry boat ride away is one of the world’s first natural marine reserves; the Berlengas Islands, a treasure of vibrant marine life and fauna.
Nearby are the Bom Sucesso and Perola da Lagoa resorts, the World Class Praia D’El Rey Golf Resort, the World Heritage medieval town of Obidos, and further along the coast the beach towns of São Martinho and Nazaré.
