Alcobaça is a charming town famous for its World Heritage Monastery. The Santa Maria Monastery was founded in 1153 by the Cistercian Order after a promise made by the first king of Portugal, Afonse Henriques, to Bernard de Clairvaux upon an important conquest. In the church can be found the beautiful tombs of D.Pedro and D.Inês in memory of their tragic love story.
Located at only a 15 min drive to beaches and 5 min to the A8 motorway, Alcobaça offers cultural entertainment as well as great countryside views. |
