Nazaré beach is best known for its year long animations and activities. Although it is a very "busy" tourist beach, Nazaré has always remained a quaint town showing off all its fishing traditions, customs and costumes. One can still see the women wearing the typical 7 layer dress, or the traditional drying of fish on the beach. The Sitio belvedere area has long since been a pilgrimmage site where there is belief that a medieval cavalier who fell off the cliff was saved by invoquing the Virgin Mary.

A panoramic cable car takes you from the beach area to the Sitio belvedere where you can get to the lighthouse and northern beach (Praia do Norte). From this uptown area begins a cycling path that takes you up north miles and miles to each new beach.

The annual New Year's Eve party with live bands along the beach and also in the uptown Sitio belvedere area is an event to be experienced! The whole beach, hillside and uptown area becomes filled with spectators watching the fireworks and enjoying themselves until dawn!
